Arguably it’s been one of the best summers for outdoor activities in Ontario with so many sunny days all season. Except when TADDMUG wants to go to Toronto Island, then it rains. Once again we used our fall back, Marché, because we never need a reservation. Well… We didn’t, but it was close this month. Every room off the main area seemed to be reserved except for a small out of the way corner. This ended up working perfectly for us because the group who reserved the rest of the room never showed up!
The group was small enough we almost all managed to fit at one reasonably large round table. Those in attendance were, PlasticFantastic and her husband dioptricstraw, Archangeli, di_chan123, nkei and her boyfriend, Meo, Wildmusings, and of course myself. It was a good time, and for once Marché was a little different than in the past. They added an Asian food section which I didn’t try because I just felt like a lazy burger, but looked like something I would try out another time.
The theme of the meet was “back to school” and completely ignored by everyone except perhaps Wildmusings. Originally I’d thought to put Horo and Alice in the gym uniform and school uniform outfits I have but decided against it. PlasticFantastic had been making fun of Horo and Alice’s lack of diversity in their clothing, always in the same outfits for every meet. So I rummaged through all their clothes and pulled out two outfits I’d bought off Mahoro forever ago but had yet to try out. Alice is wearing a cheongsam/qípáo (I believe?) and Horo a (thankfully) simplified Kimono. Everyone seemed to really like the cheongsam Alice was wearing, it went well with her hair and eyes I think. No one really commented on Horo’s Kimono though, I even tried to do her hair a little bit differently and pull more of it forward over her shoulders. Oh well, I thought you looked great in it.
I’m pretty thankful the Kimono Horo’s wearing is simplified, that is to say, it’s not a proper kimono. You don’t have to do all the fancy steps, just make sure you wrap it the right way for a living person, and then put the Velcro obi around. I was all ready to learn how to do a full kimono when I was dressing her in it, at midnight the night before the meet. I was super happy when I found out it was really simple. As I’m writing this I’ve learned that the kimono Horo’s wearing is a ‘furisode’ kimono which is apparently for unmarried women. It might not fit entirely the definition I read of furisode kimono in that it’s not overly colourful, but the sleeve length definitely fits that definition. Maybe I should find her a kimono for a married woman instead? 😉
The last thing I’ll mention about the meet is something di_chan123 pointed out to me. I’m Doc Brown from Back to the Future. No no, I’m not that eccentric nor do I have crazy white hair (yet!), but I named my two Worms & Bones creatures Einstein and Kopernikus. These are the two names of Doctor Emmett Browns dogs in the Back to the Future trilogy. At no point when I was naming Einstein and Kopernikus did it ever occur to me that these were the names of his dogs, I actually went and researched scientists to pick names from for Kopernikus’ name and had a whole big list. In the end I went with the first scientist that came to my mind one morning, but they were on that initial list. But now I know better, Kopernikus was on my mind because I’m Doc Brown
As much as I really like Alice in that cheongsam, the crease from leaving it folded so long annoys the hell out of me.
