Unreviewed: Alter KOS-MOS

Tier over at Tentacle Armada some how convinced me into buying this figure with his post about another KOS-MOS figure. Managed to find her on eBay pretty quickly from a seller I’ve bought from before so I feel pretty confident.

Update (11/06/10): Full Review.

This KOS-MOS figure is definitely going to be one of my older figures with a release date of December 2005. Tier even says it was Alters first figure! So I look forward to seeing where they started out and how much they have or haven’t progressed since then. Correction, this figure was not Alters first, but that doesn’t matter.

KOS-MOS is a 1/8th scale figure and 23 cm tall. She originally retailed for ¥4,750 / $47 CAD though costs more now due to rarity and of course no longer being produced.

It’s kinda weird how such old figures can still be bought fairly cheaply. This is still one of my favorite figures, although I kinda wish they’d stuck with the solid blue hair rather than going with the transparent plastic and even though my KOS-MOS is out of commission with warped ankles right now.

It turns out that I remembered incorrectly, I looked up Alter’s old webpage and KOS-MOS was actually their seventh figure (I guess I better edit my page). Their old 1/5 scale Rei was figure #1 but I can’t remember ever hearing a thing about it; I went looking through Heisei Democracy to see if Shingo ever mentioned it and I’m not sure if he did, whereas KOS-MOS was popular enough to get a second production run a year later.

Ah so I get to look forward to some nice warping in her ankles when I display her? That’s always fun.

I guess I’ll edit my post as well then!

Not sure if she’ll end up as one of my favs, but she does look like a pretty solid KOS-MOS, and that’s enough for me.

I did want this figure of KOS-MOS (she is Ver. 1, the very first KOS-MOS) and I am not too sure if I want to get it now, even considering the fact that I call her my waifu. Plus it is by Alter, the problem is just bootlegs.

I already have like Ver. 4 (Alter as well) and Swimsuit (also Alter lol) so yeah.

    • Aka says:

I don’t really like Ver.4 she seems too bulky or something. Ver.1 seems more petit and cute in comparison. And I’m all for the cute.

The swimsuit figures tend to feel too plain to me, almost always seem to be just standing there in a bikini. So I tend to try and avoid them. Doesn’t always sto me from buyin’ ’em but it does stop me from having a lot of them.

Ah! This was my first figure. I actually bought it when it first came out. Back then I knew nothing of figures, I just bought her because I love Kos-Mos.

I’m glad for Alter quality so far she is standing strong. One thing I do notice is that she feels quite different than PVC figures nowdays.

What a coincidence! I just reviewed this KOS-MOS on my blog. I also very recently purchased mine. Small world!

    • Aka says:

Yeah, I recall mentioning it in a post of yours. She looks pretty decent, too bad she has such a boring base though. White plastic square instead of clear plastic circle like the promo shots above.

Can’t wait to get mine out of the box and give her a good look over. For a 4 year old figure, it looks like she’s brand new in box!

  5. Good choice!
I actually like the simplistic white plastic square, maybe I am weird though. >_>
It’s a pretty decent figure considering how old it is and how young Alter was when it was made, I really like it (but I am a KOS-MOS addict x.x).
Also, I haven’t experienced any warping, so I hope you don’t either when you get yours.

    • Aka says:

Mine appears to be brand new in box, so I don’t expect any warping. Though over time, perhaps? We shall see. Hopefully not though!

  6. VF says:

I had ordered this same KOS-MOS recently too, small world. 😛
Will you be doing a review of her?

    I decided to get this one after I got the v4, Alter + KOS-MOS = Win! 🙂

    • Aka says:

Of course I will be! I try to do reviews of all my figures. Thankfully for the site I’ve been collecting them faster than I can review. But unfortunately that’s hard on the wallet!

      Alter + = Win! (generally)

Alter needs to do a Horo.
