Drossel Presents…

… a new theme! I’m sure some of you have noticed already, but Tailgrab.Org(y) has changed a little bit. A new theme here, a touch of tail there, and even Tailgrab’s HQs has changed a bit.

The changes all started in a fairly unrelated manner, my self-image. I felt my clothes were getting dated, wearing ThinkGeek T-shirts and jeans to work everyday seemed a bit too nerdy, but worst of all, they were getting very worn and faded from everyday wear and tear. So off to the clothing shop I went, shops I suppose as I ended up going to more than one. After picking out some snazzy attire I regained some confidence in my appearance, no longer wearing my old ratty clothes, and receiving some welcome praise on my new looks.

drossel-presents-cabinetsBut this was not enough, no, now that I looked good I felt my personal living space was no longer living up to my expectations. So of course I scurried off to IKEA to find some wonderful swedish furniture to mix in with the rest of my room. My key concern was to replace this old, ugly, falling apart shelving unit that just did not match anything at all in my space. Everything I had, sans the desk, is IKEA birch coloured and this shelving unit was cheap black, the new one would of course be coloured to match. However there were addition items I felt were required as well, a shelf next to my desk to remove the growing clutter from overwhelming me, as well as the best piece, a display cabinet to put my figures in!

Again this wasn’t enough, there was something more than was needed, but I couldn’t really put my finger on it. Partly due to the nature of digital objects, however once I saw Kodomut’s newly themed site, I knew what I was missing immediately. Just how ugly my website really was, I liked that it was simple sure, but it really wasn’t very appealing. It seemed too narrow, and things were hard to navigate and there didn’t feel any separation between somethings. So of course I copied Kodomut, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery is it not? 🙂

Switching to the theme was simpler than anticipated as a lot of things were simplified with the theme. However I was still required to update around 60 posts just to get things perfect, or as perfect as I could. Hopefully things are perfect and no one will notice any issues, but, if you do, please, by all means, tell me ASAP! Suggestions are also very welcome and much appreciated.

Things are not all done yet however, I think next on my list is to figure out what to do with all these…

I see you also moved to “BigFeature”. I wonder if I would’ve used it if it were implemented on WordPress.com…

    BTW, CommentLuv?

    • Aka says:

I certainly did, after seeing it I couldn’t not switch. It’s a very nice theme, and mine was getting incredibly dated.

Not going to add the CommentLuv plugin at this time.

One of the hassles of changing themes is that if you change to a narrower theme, you have to change the look of all your photos to fit.. so a theme has to be as wide or wider, and if you have a custom header, you sometimes have to re-do it, which is also a hassle…

I wish changing themes were easier. I wish my blog had been wider, so that comment-nesting could go on longer and be easily readable.
I also dislike how comments on my blog don’t show empty lines between paragraphs.. but I’m patient.

This theme is pretty simple to switch to for me, as the post width is about the same width. Previously it was around 550 pixels wide, this one I believe is somewhere around 528 pixels. Additionally it recreates many images to fit properly, though I suspect this theme wouldn’t work well on a heavy site for that reason, though it may cache them I’m not sure, but it does seem to create them on the fly.

          Either way I like it.

Amazing. The theme is great, congratulation ^^

  3. Guy says:

Wow, you could move my comments from that post to this post? That’s awesome, and I wish I could do it on wordpress.com

    • Aka says:

I just edited the database. I’m sure there’s a plugin for it, by it’s easy enough to edit that sorta thing. The comments are only attached to the post by one field.

Feels like I’ve seen a shelf set-up like that before…

LOVE the new theme Aka! A very simple layout without being boring.

I was just doing some behind the scenes stuff with my site modifying our existing theme. But now you’ve got me thinking to put up a totally new one. :3

Boxes should be recycled or destroyed; get rid of them before they take over your entire closet! But seriously, I only keep the ones for figures I absolutely love or ones that are functionally necessary to move them. Otherwise they can get a little out of hand.

    • Aka says:

Yes.. I wonder where you’ve seen that shelf set-up before… Meant to link to that in the post actually…

I’m glad you like it, I really like it myself, it seems like one of those themes that makes you look like you know what you’re doing. Which is always good, I like giving off that impression.

As for the boxes… I have a situation where at some point, I’m going to have to move, and I want to keep them so that when I do move, they don’t end up like my model cars. With mirrors broken off and such…

      • Rico-sama says:

I’ll likely be moving in the future sometime too, but I think I’ve got a self packaging system down to where I don’t need the boxes. I’ve actually got a quite a few figures in “storage” now (the crappy ones) to test out long term.

Sad I’ve gotten to this point.

        • Aka says:

How have you packed and stored them? I don’t exactly plan to move tomorrow or anything. But it would be nice to have an idea. I do know that they would be coming in my car with me, just like my computers. I wouldn’t trust a moving truck or moving people to do it.

But I fear wrapping them in newspaper or something, it just doesn’t seem like it’ll work quite right and I’ll get bent limbs or worse, broken limbs…
