A delay and another order

Some good and bad news in this post. The bad, a delayed order that shouldn’t be delayed. The good, another figure on order!

The Bad

I must say I’m quite disappointed right now. Back in December I pre-ordered the Good Smile Company’s rendition of Horo from Toys Logic located in Northern California. This meant that because they’re located in the United States I would be receiving her fairly late compared to Japan, but this was acceptable as it was only a month. Some time afterwards and a few more orders, I decided it would be best if I combined orders to save on shipping, instead of shipping each one individually. This confused things but eventually things seemed to get worked out.

Combining the orders meant that things would be pushed back until the final item arrived, but again, this was acceptable and known, so I was happy to do so. However, now that the time has come to ship the items, we have run into more difficulties. Horo as mentioned above was no longer in stock. Despite pre-ordering her 26 weeks ago, they don’t have one in stock to ship me. I’m not sure why this would be, perhaps the confusion mentioned above or perhaps a mistake, perhaps worse, I’m not sure and probably shouldn’t speculate.

They’ve informed me that they will be receiving a re-stock on July 15th. That’s all well and good, but I can’t help but feel bothered by it. What’s the point of a pre-order, especially when you get in early on it, when the item you purchased arrives 4 months after it’s released? I say 4 months because by the time Horo ships to me it’ll be nearly August, and she was released in April!

It seems like the lesson I should learn here is, order from the source. Now I can’t order from Good Smile Company themselves I don’t think, but Japan is a hell of a lot closer to the source than California. In addition to that, Japan ships very quickly too. The few orders I’ve made in Japan have shipped very fast indeed, one example, ships Friday, received Tuesday. Not over night, but for the lowest level shipping from Play-Asia, that’s quick.

The Good

It seemed like a good idea to start out with the bad news first. Finishing with the good news is always how Jeremy Clarkson does his car reviews, and it works well for him. The good news is I’ve spent more money. Well ok, that’s not really good news in and of itself, but that money was spent purchasing EnterBrain’s Rin Natsume from Little Busters! I’d been eyeing this figure for quite sometime, since seeing her over on foo-bar-baz. Yesterday I finally caved after seeing Rico-sama post his review of her. So of course, I blame him entirely.

I wont say much about the figure other than I love the pose. Yes the pantyshot, I surely couldn’t deny that, but she’s quite flexible kicking that high. It’s definitely interesting compared to other poses, and that makes it a good pose. There, that’s all I say about her for now. Hopefully shearrives when she’s supposed to.

Update: Fixed dates. I’d grabbed the wrong date from the email. I pre-ordered Horo in December, not February, making it 26 weeks, not 18.

    Damn Aka, that’s some really bad luck! Especially knowing your fondness for all things Spice and Wolf. 🙁

    I’ve had something similar happen to me with Toys Logic. Their excuse is they sometimes get cut by the distributor and when this happens they have to find the rest somewhere else (though I never got an answer as to why they can’t get a guarantee from the distributor).

    Certainly not trying to excuse them, just some food for thought. Plus, I can’t figure out how they could have not had one for you since you ordered so early.

    Nice figure choices, I like them both. I’ve had problems with Toys Logic in the past too, I was so disappointed in them that I stopped buying from them altogether and moved on to exclusively purchasing from overseas stores like Hobby Search and Hobby Link Japan, though occasionally other stores. I’m going to be giving Toys Logic one last chance this fall (They had something I couldn’t find elsewhere) and if that figure doesn’t arrive on time I’m not touching them again. Toys Logic billed me for something a month before it came out. Then when it came out they said they were out of stock, and it took them forever to refund me, which I had to email them just to get any kind of information about it because they certainly couldn’t contact me.

    In the past, TL was doing very well. I think now they’re getting more well known that it’s harder for them to keep track of items. Plus, they don’t have a lot of workers there which they need really bad now, especially in customer services. The people on the forum keep telling me to contact Mark or something.

    That’s why you should always keep emailing them. I still buy stuffs there though because of the limited figures they have but other than that, it’s okay. I mostly shop at HLJ.

    Additionally, I went back and checked some dates, I had them wrong. I pre-ordered Horo in DECEMBER not February. Making the pre-order 26 weeks ago, not 18. Making it exactly half a year ago.

    @Rico, I can understand that things don’t always go as planned. I can also understand that the distributor might not be producing products as quickly as they had hoped and have to cut back to ship more domestically since that’s their primary market. But a 26 week pre-order, surely I was in there at the beginning! So it doesn’t seem a worthy excuse to me, not that you were making one. Especially not a worthy one when their order system claims they had one ready to ship to me 14 days ago.

    @BangBang!, I think you also have a good point. If they are infact getting busier it would make a lot of sense as to why their customer service is lacking. Emails are taking longer and longer to be replied to. I remember back when I first started ordering from them, their responses were pretty quick, usually within a day. Now it feels like I’m getting ignored, I email and days pass without response. So I’ve chosen to call them from time to time to get information. It’s harder to be ignored on the phone.

    But that all said, it doesn’t seem like much has changed if I actually look back through my emails. Sure they were quicker back then, but I was still emailing them about the same things then as I am now. My very first email to them was about receiving a tracking number. I’d received an email stating that my items were ready to ship, however even after 6 days passed I’d not yet received a tracking number. Recently, just before this delay, I was emailing them about the same thing, a tracking number. However I’d not received a response until 8 days later. They also decided to add in the delayed product information as well. So it was icing on the cake, ignoring me only to tell me they didn’t have my pre-order.

    @Persocom, Thanks, I hope to like them as well. I honestly didn’t remember if I’d had problems with Toys Logic in the past. Only until this incident did I start to remember and look up old emails. It seems I’ve often had issue, though everything has always seemed to work out in the end. However with all the invoices, changes at my request, and how their invoices read, it’s ver hard to know what I’ve actually paid for and what I haven’t. Something I’ve been meaning to look into.

    For the past month and a half, I’ve been ordering things from Hobby Link Japan as well. What initially stopped me from doing so was some stories I’d heard about them from aquiantences. However since then I’ve only ever heard good things for HLJ. So here’s hoping all goes well with them.

    Wow. I never knew TL had/has such problems (though before BangBang! confirmed it it did feel like there were only a handful of people working there).

    They did right by me in my problem. I had ordered a Lucky Star Petit Nendoroid set which saw it’s shipment cut and it felt like they really scrambled to find me a complete set. I say “find” and mean it. Anyone who’s gotten an entire gashapon box knows that there’s usually a large box that serves as a display case for stores, but I didn’t get that.

    What I got were the individual gashapon boxes, each opened to ensure it’s contents, and put into standard shipping box. They even found me the limited edition one that usually comes with the large box. I don’t know how they did it, but they did. And TL always stood out to me for that.

      I’m not exactly sure what the display case box would look like so it’s hard to say for sure what I’m about to say. I think I would have been disappointed to some extent still. Given the type of communication I’ve received from them, it would have seemed like I didn’t get what I actually bought, I would have expected that display case box.

      Perhaps the display case box is not important, I’m not sure. But without proper communication it’s hard to appreciate their efforts, as they’re unknown without it.

      So from my perspective, it just seems like TL shipped my Horo to someone else who’d ordered. But I really feel like I’m jumping to conclusions with that statement. I’m still awaiting more information from them to see if things can be cleared up somewhat.

      Did TL tell you they had to piece together a set for you? Or was it a guess on your part due to the circumstances and the received items.

      Eitherway, I feel I’m I’m complaining too much over a rather small thing in the end. So I’ll move on to some good news.

      Rin Natsume shipped today, should see her in 2 weeks.

        It was an educated guess on my part. Their exacting wording was “we were able to find the whole set for you”. So that combined with the open gashapon boxes led me to believe they hunted for me.

        No, the display box isn’t really important. Just this ugly cardboard thing that has no windows but is perforated so that a store owner can tear it open to show the individual gashapon boxes in an orderly way. Entirely disposable.

        Looking back on my chain, I’m noticing solid communication with them. Usually the day of. Actually, I was always going directly to that Mark guy, now that look closely.

          Ah I had no idea what a gashapon box was, and the way you described it seemed like it was an integral part of the product. I’d tried a quick google to find a picture, but couldn’t.

          Their exact wording does indeed imply they had to hunt. Good on them!

    I was browsing through through their forum today & ettendu (TL owner) told everyone what really happen and whatnot. Seems like they were away at anime conventions & weren’t there to monitor shipping/communication. That explains the lacking in those departments. o.0

    Here’s what he said:

      Thanks for the further information. I should think however that if they were going to be out of the office, perhaps having an auto-reply that stated such would be helpful.

      I emailed them a question asking for follow up information regarding my issue when this post was made, June 16th, 2009. I have not received a reply as of yet, and 6 days have pass, 2 of which are weekend days so they can be excused. That still means 4 business days have passed. I’m not ovelry happy with them at the moment.

      But all that said, I did receive a nicely packed box today that shipped fairly quickly. I believe it took 5 days including the weekend from ship to arrival, which isn’t too bad.

      Ups and downs with them right now it seems. Hopefully they get back on track.
