Oops / Random Posts

January 22, 2010  |  Blog, Other

To any of you who might have been wondering what all the random posts that may have been showing up on OMGW, oops, my bad! I thought they were hidden posts and wouldn’t show up in any feeds. Little did I forget that when I make posts it updates all sorts of sites that I’m doing so, and litttle did I know that they would actually show up in my feed as well despite having been told not to!

So what was it all about anyway, I was updating my On Order and Unreviewed lists to make them easier to manage for myself as well as updating the content in them. That’s all!

You can carry on now!

  1. So I take it places like the Tsuki Network were populating with your posts? Even though you listed them as private? Weird.

This is the first I’ve noticed your On Order and Unreviewed sections. I love the concept, but you have a lot of content there that I didn’t know about when visiting your site since the main page didn’t update. If you’re not also going to be posting these to the homepage, perhaps some sort of indicator on the sidebar when there is new content?

It’s probably more important for the On Order section than it is Unreviewed section. That way people (like me) can share in the joy when you buy new figures! :D

    Anyway just something to consider.

    • It’s all old stuff so I didn’t want it to show up. The new stuff will update sites like MyFigureCollection and Twitter, but not my front page. I didn’t really think it important enough to show up there.

I’ll consider a side bar item though, that might not be such a bad idea. Like a “Recently Purchased” list.

  2. I would love to do an unreviewed section…but man…I have way too many that I haven’t gotten around to review. My laziness would be displayed for all the world to see. I prefer to hide my shame ;)

    • I have to say I’m pretty amazed with myself and this site. It’s nothing big or anything, but it’s the most consistantly I’ve ever updated a site with real content. So I feel pretty good about it and continue to update it with reviews and whatever I can. The Unreviewed section was added just because I felt bad some figures weren’t up on the site yet. But prior to the change recently I rarely updated the page due to the cumbersome process I’d set myself up. With the new change it’s pretty easy to add new figures to the list. And with a new plugin that lets me redirect old posts to new ones, I can write reviews later and just have the old post redirect to the review whenever it’s written.

I’m also lazy, but I’m lazy with other things, like cleaning up, doing the laundry, making myself tasty food and instead making instant meals, hell sometimes I’m lazy and don’t eat, I just realized I’m hungry right now.

      • I took a LONG break from figure reviews, I got into a bit of a funk over getting the lighting and backgrounds right. But I think I’m on track to making things better, so I’ll be doing more figure reviews again.

At my peak (on my first blog) I did like 3 figure reviews a week.

        • I’ve only done 3 figures in a week, twice, before Christmas. I had 2 sets of figures to review, so I kept them close together.

I try to stick to one a week just because I don’t buy enough figures to do anything more, and don’t want to run out of material.

I know what you mean though about lighting and backgrounds. I’m really bored with my white background, but it does make for some decent title pics with this theme. And I think I have the lighting consistant between reviews which is always good, white balance wise anyway. Makes it easier to compare figures, at least if you have some of the figures I do and can extrapolate that onto others.

  3. Awww I don’t see why it needs to be hidden…I like reading peoples random thoughts on figures just as much as reviews…I didn’t even know you had such section until your “slip-up”. :p

    • I just feel they’d get sorta mixed up as reviews or something.

Additionally I can’t always find a picture that works well with the theme, and I don’t want to muck up my front page.
